What's happened?

Deposit problems come in all shapes and sizes.

You don't need to know whether your landlord did something wrong before getting in touch. If something doesn't seem right, that's enough to start a conversation.

01

Your tenancy has ended, but you're still waiting for some or all of your deposit to come back.

02

Deductions don't seem fair

Money has been taken for cleaning, damage or other costs and you don't agree with what's being charged.

03

Not sure it was protected

You can't find your protection details, or you're unsure whether your deposit was registered correctly.

04

Something wasn't done properly

Your deposit may have been protected late, or you weren't given the information you should have received.

Common questions

Straight answers about your deposit.

Not sure where you stand? Here are a few things you might want to know before getting in touch.

Costs Will this cost me anything?

Your initial advice from us is free. If we put you in touch with a specialist and they’re able to help with a claim, they work on a no-win-no-fee basis. There’s nothing to pay upfront, and you only pay a fee if your claim is successful.

Deposit protection How do I know if my deposit was protected properly?

You can check whether your deposit is registered with one of the three deposit protection schemes: DPS, TDS or mydeposits. If you find your deposit, it was probably protected. However, when it was protected and whether you were given the required information can still matter. If you can’t find it, or something doesn’t look right, we can help you work out the next step.

Moved out Can I still get help if I’ve already moved out?

Yes, you may still be able to get help after your tenancy has ended. Tell us when you moved out, what happened to your deposit and any communication you’ve had with your landlord or letting agent since.

Deductions What if my landlord has made deductions from my deposit?

If money has been taken for cleaning, damage or other charges and you don’t think the deductions are fair, we can help you understand your options. It’s useful to keep any photos, inventories, emails or messages relating to the property and your deposit.

Protected late What if my deposit was protected, but it was done late or incorrectly?

Your deposit being in a protection scheme doesn’t necessarily mean everything was done correctly. The timing of the protection and the information you were given can also matter. If something doesn’t seem right, we can help you understand whether it’s worth having your tenancy checked by a specialist.
